Dr. Meredith Kennedy

Meredith Kennedy is originally from Michigan, where she went to Michigan State University and obtained her veterinary degree in 1990. She loves traveling, and has lived in the U.S.Virgin Islands, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Botswana, Ghana, the Northern Mariana Islands of the South Pacific, and New Zealand. Her pets have sometimes traveled with her, and have included a retired racehorse on the island of St.John (originally from the island of St.Thomas and rode the ferry over), a Verreaux's eagle owl in Tanzania (raised as a rescued hatchling and later released in a national park), a goat, several cats and dogs, including a Great Dane, and a card-carrying junkyard dog from the island of St.Thomas. In Botswana she has done surgery on an ostrich, and led student expeditions to protect sea turtle nests on coastal Tanzania and Zanzibar. While living on Zanzibar she conducted her own clandestine spay-neuter program for the multitudes of stray cats there, inviting kitties inside for some quality time and a nice meal, and then later letting them outside again spayed or neutered, vaccinated and dewormed. While living in Africa she taught academic semester abroad programs for American college students, on marine biology, wildlife biology, conservation biology, and arts and culture. She speaks fluent Swahili.
Meredith also enjoys music, and has a Master's degree in Vocal Performance from California State Long Beach, and has recorded several albums. She has toured with the CSULB University and Chamber choirs in Europe, California and China, and will be performing her own cabaret concert, 'Dressed in Black' in California and in New Zealand. These cabaret concerts are fundraisers for low-cost spay/neuter programs benefitting local humane societies.
