General Practice Veterinary Technician - Berkeley Dog and Cat Hospital
Position Overview:
Here at Berkeley Dog & Cat Hospital, we have been providing our clients and their beloved pets with advanced and compassionate veterinary care since 1907. Responsibilities:
- Assist veterinarians with appointments scheduled for the day
- Assist veterinarians in providing medical care to animals
- Perform routine procedures such as obtaining vitals, vaccinations, venipuncture, IV catheter placement, running in-house bloodwork, calculate drug doses
- Administer medications and treatments as directed by veterinarians
- Monitor and record vital signs of animals during procedures and treatments
- Prepare animals for surgery and assist during surgical procedures
- Take radiographs of patients and sending them for review
- Assist in dental cleanings with extractions under the supervision of a veterinarian with the dental technician
- Provide animal restraint during examinations and procedures
- Collect and process laboratory samples for testing
- Maintain accurate medical records for all patients

Requirements:
- Hold a valid CA RVT License
- High school diploma required; Associates in Veterinary Science or Veterinary Technology preferred
- Must have a minimum of 1-2 years of experience as a Veterinary Technician
- Strong knowledge of veterinary medicine, emergency procedures, anesthesia, and pharmacology
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work well in a team environment
- Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds and stand for extended periods of time
- Must be able to multi-task and pay attention to detail
- Must be able to problem solve
- Must be able to work in a team as a positive team player
Experience:
- Fear-free handling preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a veterinary technician or equivalent education/training
- Experience with proper restraint techniques
- Knowledge of veterinary medicine and animal physiology
- Familiarity with veterinary terminology and laboratory procedures
Education:
- High School Diploma required, Associates Degree in Animal Science or Veterinary Technology preferred.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $24.00 - $28.00 per hour
Expected Schedule: Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm
